Our goodbye to Paul

A very sad but poignantly beautiful occasion, when Paul's family and friends gathered to say goodbye to Paul and to celebrate his life. Following a moving and unique service at the cemetery chapel, warmly conducted by minister Alan Wright, the sun shone down from a blue sky as Paul was laid to rest in a peaceful countryside setting, close to his childhood home and the meadows where he played as a boy. All were invited to join the family for lunch at the Blacksmith's Arms, Little Clacton, where many fond memories were recalled and tributes paid to Paul as everyone chatted in the pleasant, sunny garden. Some of Paul's friends were reunited after many years which would have made Paul very happy. We all miss him so much, but he is with us in our hearts, loved and remembered always. "My Sweet Mum" by Paul (read at Paul's funeral by his cousins Carly and Abbie) Where would I be without my best friend of all time She is the reason I am writing this rhyme My sweet Mum, to me she is so good There's never a problem she hasn't understood Always sticks by me whenever I'm down The queen of my life, she wears the crown At times I've been bad and done things so wrong I've fallen in life but she helps keep me strong My Mother you see, is one of a kind She's guided me through, when at times I've been blind She loves her football and her holidays And going to London to watch musical plays A positive woman with such a strong mind I'm so glad with her I have a mother and son bind I hope I can make her proud, you see My sweet, sweet Mum means the world to me "My Best Friends" by Paul (read at Paul's graveside by minister Alan Wright) The friends I have mean the world to me Having good mates don't cost, it's free Like a family, we look out for each other I will be there for them, like a brother Right now I miss them, they seem so far away But I'll see them soon, can't wait for the day My best friends, individual each one They make me happy, we always have fun I hope they will be around for all time The family of friends that I can call mine Both poems were written by Paul in November 2001. The classic song "One Love" by Bob Marley was played at the end of Paul's funeral to express the feelings of love and togetherness on the saddest of days. It can be heard through the "musical note" link in this chapter of Paul's "Lifestory" or alternatively by visiting the "Gallery" sounds link.
