Paul's thirties

Created by Jill 14 years ago
Following his discharge from The Royal Free Hospital at Hampstead in March 2002, Paul spent the summer working in a bar on the Greek island of Kos. He applied for several jobs in the travel industry over the next few years but unfortunately was not successful. During this time, he did part-time work such as painting and decorating.Paul was relatively happy during his early thirties and had many fun times, also making lots of new friends. He loved to travel and enjoyed holidays abroad, including several trips to Spain, Greece and the Canary Islands. Paul found happiness in a relationship during this time, but sadly it ended. He developed epilepsy in 2006 due to his previous brain damage and his life changed dramatically after this. Medication to control his seizures affected his mental state and he also had serious sleep problems which at times left him feeling very low. He was under the National Hospital for Neurology who seemed unable to find suitable medication for his epilepsy and insomnia. Paul's condition limited his work options considerably which left him very frustrated and unfulfilled. Some of these feelings are shown clearly in the poetry which he wrote to express himself. Despite all his problems, Paul continued to travel and along with his usual destinations, added Luxembourg and Abu Dhabi. He was hoping that his health would improve to enable him to live and work in Spain, the country he had fallen in love with during his visits. He never lost his passion for music, dance and theatre which he acquired at quite a young age. Paul had a loyal and caring personality and had many friends, although he did not see as much of them as he would have liked once his health deteriorated. However, he remained close to certain friends, especially those from his teenage years and was a much loved "uncle" to their children who he also loved dearly. His loss in April 2009 at just 37 years old left his family and friends devastated. Treasured memories of a much loved Paul will live forever in hearts and minds.
