Paul had a love of nature and animals and enjoyed watching natural history programmes on TV. One of his favourite lessons at high school was rural science where he was happy to look after the school livestock. However, on the day when the pigs were collected for slaughter, he was too upset to go to school. Paul would have loved a dog of his own but due to his medical condition, felt that he would not be able to care for and walk it as he would have wanted. One dog that has a special place in Paul's heart is a beautiful black labrador named Toro.
